"A New York judge today warned the supermodel Naomi Campbell that he would issue a warrant for her arrest if she failed to arrive at court next month.
The threat came after the British model failed to arrive for a hearing at Manhattan criminal court over accusations that she had thrown a mobile phone at her housekeeper's head.
Ms Campbell's lawyer, David Breitbart, said her absence was not due to professional reasons, but refused to explain further. Prosecutors told the court that discussions on a possible plea bargain were continuing, and the case was adjourned until November 15. A bench warrant was stayed, but Judge James Gibbons said it would take effect if Ms Campbell did not turn up on that date.
"I want to make it clear that she is absolutely obliged to appear at the next hearing," he said. "If she fails to appear on that court date, the warrant will go into effect."
